Finding a letter on your doormat for a business you don't own can be really unsettling. We know how worrying this is, and we'll do everything we can to help.
We use public information from Companies House to send welcoming letters to new startups. A business owner may have incorrectly used your home address on the public register, which is why you've received a letter we were intending to send to them. We completely understand how frustrating and concerning this can be.
Just so you know, usually we aren't connected to this company and don't provide them with services, but we can offer some support.
Stop further contact from us
Please send us an email to let us know you've received a letter. It would be great if you can include the business name and registered company number so that we can block your address from our marketing database.
Cleaning up the public register
To get your address removed from that business permanently, you'll need to contact Companies House. Since they manage the official government register, they're the only ones who can fix the public record. Don't worry, they're used to handling this.
You can email them at enquiries@companieshouse.gov.uk or call them on 0303 1234 500 to start the removal process.
Protecting your identity
If you're worried someone is using your personal details dishonestly, please act fast.
If you're based in England, Northern Ireland or Wales
You can report fraud to the Police using the Report Fraud Portal or call them directly at 0300 123 2040
If you're based in Scotland
You can call Police Scotland on 101 to report impersonation fraud directly.
No matter where you are located, we would also recommend reading this guidance from Cifas (a not-for-profit fraud prevention service) on protecting yourself from impersonation fraud.
